Colours, smells, noises that become sounds, names that reignite memories of youth. When the passion for cycling has its roots in time it becomes a journey into memory. A journey that involves all the senses as in the “recherche” of Marcel Proust. The explosion of colours of the shirts in a group, the slightly sweet smell camphorated oil that is spread on the legs, the swish of wheels on asphalt… “In search of times lost” is a perfect title for that need to rediscover the old emotions experienced whilst riding the bicycle with adolescent self-cockiness, identifying with real riders: irrespective of whether professional or amateur, champions or followers, because those riders, even before being physical figures were names known by reading the news and the orders of arrival in newspapers. For many the Monday morning reading of the double page in “Stadio”, with all the orders of arrival from amateurs to students, was an absolute ritual, which was completed on Thursdays with a final deepening with “Tuttociclismo”, the mouthpiece of the cycling federation in which it was also possible to study the competitions organised for the following Sunday.

Due to the fact that up to thirty-forty years ago there were few pictures in circulation, even less so videos, and only of the professionals of the great races like the Giro d’Italia. The names of the teams, especially amateur ones, became legendary through reading: it was the big clubs that monopolised the strongest riders and engaged in the duels up to the last metre. Those clubs that trained future champions throwing onto the road a bitter but healthy rivalry. An authentic heritage of inestimable historical and sentimental value that Tiralento wants to bring to light to rediscover an ancient emotion and give reward to the "memory”.

And so was born the “historical clubs” project, set up regionally, which envisages a first phase of research and study before moving on to the creation of the shirts that have written the history of non-professional cycling. A gift from Tiralento to all the enthusiasts who want to rediscover the roots of their love for the racing bike.

The goal of the first stage is in Romagna, land of sanguine passions, where in a single town different teams were established, all very strong, such as at Ravenna, with il Pedale Ravennate, La Rinascita e la Siapa. Born out of cycling passion and political rivalry: La Rinascita, actually, was from communist inspiration, il Pedale from socialist and la Siapa, continuation of the Libertas, from Christian democrat inspirations. Inevitable, therefore, the hunt for the strongest riders which was instilled with the germ of rivalry. La Sciapa deployed Torelli, Bernardi, Pierluigi Fabbri and the Australians Clively and Sefton; il Pedale countered with Marcelli, Menghi, Montanari and Flamini; la Rinascita replied with Zamagni, Landini, Tonoli, Cavalcanti, Malaguti, Benedetti, Primavera and Ascani. To beat ones “fellow cititzens” was a more fulfilling victory. Stories of other times, verbally passed on through epic tales by those who had lived them on the road.
